The 4-day 42nd annual seminar of ICPAK, first edition that kicked off on Tuesday 20May 2025 under the theme: Beyond the profession: Accountants in all Spheres of Economy to end on Friday 23May 2025.
ICPAK chairman DR. Philip Kakai highlighted the importance of the institutions support for improving the accountancy profession. In his welcoming speech, the ICPAK chairman called Accountants to advocate for the profession, to work hard and seek together the lasting solutions stressing current challenges the ICPAK is facing. DR. Philip Kakai has underlined the corruption and the data protection issues.
Meanwhile, regarding with the International sustainability standards, 36 Jurisdictions are making progress towards adoption or to the use of them ISSB, which provide a comprehensive foundation of disclosures for global jurisdictions adoption, according to Simon Messenger, the senior advisor of IFRS Foundation. They are also designed to meet investor needs across global capital markets.
And former prime minister Raila Odinga, talked about economic transformations in Kenya. He mentioned the role of accountants in the fight against Grabble since the country is still facing inflation and instability among other issues.
Ceremonies took place in Mombasa, the second town of Kenya, where other institutions of professional accountants participated in the event including those from Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. OPC delegates including a member of the OPC council, and the OPC Public Affairs Officer.
Burundi delegates had 2 main messages: the greetings from the OPC president to his counterpart. The second is to invite representatives from Kenya to massively participate in the 5th EACOA scheduled from 15 to 17 April next year, 2026 under the theme: Driving sustainability through the accountancy profession.
OPC calls upon Kenyan professional accountants and those from beyond the region to massively participate and he believes that their support would significantly enhance OPC efforts and it will foster invaluable connections. OPC gives them also an opportunity to explore the possibility of a sponsorship partnership. This event will serve as a vital platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration among regional accountants and policymakers.
