ACOA 2025 Kicked off on yesterday with the hope to develop Africa and Accountancy Profession

The Africa Congress of Accountants kicked off yesterday in Kigali, capital of Rwanda under the theme: Creating Values for Africa. 

“The Accountancy profession plays a vital role in strengthening institutions, “ said the Rwanda minister of Finance and Economic Planning during the launch of the 8th ACOA activities.

More than 50 countries are represented in that 4-day Congress.  Among the delegates,30 are Burundians led by CPA GAHUNGU Frédéric, the president of the Ordre des Professionnels Comptables du Burundi, OPC.  

Taking into account the participation rate, the exchanges, and the content of the opening speeches, CPA GAHUNGU Frédéric believes that accountants understand now that Africa needs to develop. He stressed this in an interview with BTN Rwanda local media. 

However, the educational system is not uniform in Africa giving an example of countries that lag behind. “Policies should be harmonized because the political instability negatively impacts countries’ economies”, he added.

Other delegates recommended that the business areas be facilitated in the framework of having a regional common market and to facilitate the human traffic.

Earlier on 5th of May and under the same ACOA 2025 theme, a forum to advance women in accountancy in Africa took place in Kigali to exchange on how they can break barriers by building their influence. OPC Treasurer CPA TAMBAKUBWAYO Ashura was among the distinguished delegates.

The Africa Congress of Accountants that kicked off on 6 May will be concluded on the 9th day of May 2025.
